Shedding Your Old Self into Authenticity

As we come closer to the end of the Year of the Snake, these intense days bring up themes of death and rebirth.

When we hear the word death, it often makes us feel “iiih” — maybe some tension in the body or a strange feeling in the stomach.

Have you ever thought that this is simply the nature of life?

Are you aware that, while you are reading this right now, countless cells in your body are dying and countless new ones are being born?

Have you ever thought that when you breathe, each inhale is welcoming O₂, new life, a new beginning, and each exhale is saying goodbye to CO₂, goodbye to what no longer serves you?

Have you ever noticed that when you are walking, each step is saying goodbye to the path behind and hello to the path ahead?

Whether it is an exhale, a dying cell, the path you leave behind, or an inhale, a new cell, the step you take—they are all part of the same thing: constant change.

One of my guides says that even as you speak, you are quietly becoming someone else; the you from three seconds ago is already gone. You are, like life itself, a river of change—never the same twice. Whether we realise it or not, the river keeps flowing.

So, what does the death of the old version of yourself really mean?
It can mean leaving behind, changing, transforming your thoughts, labels, conditionings, beliefs that no longer serve you. This is the rebirth of a new version of you. Maybe it is not even “new” – maybe each time you shed something old, you come a little closer to your authentic self.

Are you open to change, or are you running away from it?

The snake sheds its skin. It doesn’t resist. It lets go in order to live.

So, what needs to change, to transform in your life? What needs to “die” and be born?
This doesn’t have to be something big. It might mean changing the routines that drain your energy and leave you feeling out of balance, starting to eat healthier, or adding self-care rituals into your life. Or it can go deeper—letting go of anger toward someone, creating more space in your heart for peace to bloom.

Maybe it is time to say goodbye to some habits, thoughts, beliefs. I know it is hard. Maybe you have been with them for a loooong time, and the new feels scary.

I’ll leave you with this quote from Rumi:

“Do not worry that your life is turning upside down. How do you know the side you are used to is better than the one to come?”

With love,

Ece
